Alexander Lazarev was born in Moscow into a family of actors Alexander Lazarev (senior) and Svetlana Nemolyaeva. In 1979, at age 12, he played the role of Theodore Lyamina in the play "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk" named after V. Theatre. Mayakovsky.

In 1984, Lazarev entered the Moscow Art Theatre School in the course of Ivan Tarhanova, but then went into the army, served in the military command of the Central Red Army Theater. In 1987 he returned to the Moscow Art Theatre School (course Alexander Kalyagin), graduated from it in 1990 and was accepted into the troupe of the theater "Lenk".
