Recital Gleb Kolyadina in the «GRAND PIANO»

On March 18, on the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater, there will be a piano concert by Gleb Kolyadin (ideological inspirer and composer of the iamthemorning musical project) in support of his debut solo album.

The author's program The Art of Introspection is timed to the release of the debut solo album of the musician, released on February 23 on the British label Kscope. The concert program repeats the story line revealed in the album: it is based on the story of a non-existent house that is a hero in a dream. This surreal location is a kind of projection of the inner self. Passing through the intricate corridors and climbing the stairs, the hero collects disparate ideas, reinterprets them and comes to an understanding of the integrity of his own world.

Gleb Kolyadin is a pianist, performer of academic and author's music, ideological inspirer and composer of the musical project iamthemorning. The duet, who got into the short list of PROG-2016 in the nominations "Best group of the year", "Vocals", "Keyboards" in his work successfully synthesizes elements of classics, ethnomusic and prog-rock. The project, signed by the British label Kscope, recorded three albums, and in September 2016 received the Progressive Music Awards in the nomination "Best Album of the Year".

Gleb Kolyadin's piano parts certainly determine the sound of the iamthemorning project, which became even more evident with the release of the pianist's solo album. In the studio album, the influence of the prog-rock of the attracted musicians from King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, and academic education is heard. But first of all, the solo album is personal, biographical work of Kolyadin, in which both the "English" influence and folklore quotes are heard: it is obvious that in the course of career development the island culture strongly influenced the artist.

Even further Kolyadin is in the stage version of these tracks. Concert performance unites two traditions: classical - in its game it is possible to trace references to Rachmaninov, Scriabin and even Bach, and fatal - even alone the musician remains a rock-keyboardist. In fact, the concert will become a creative laboratory where, improvising with the material of the solo album, Gleb Kolyadin will replace in two hands the whole orchestra, not forgetting about the drive and the saturation, alternating the waltz stoiciness and the astonishing nervousness of the pro- gress, minimalism and multilayeredness, when the studio versions grow to impressive opuses in 10-20 minutes.
Visual accompaniment of the concert will be provided by media artists Mikhail Schelkunov and Olga Ionina, turning Gleb Kolyadin's virtuoso performance into an audiovisual performance where the live piano vibrations can be heard and seen. In the projections on the screen, media artists will present an audiovisual interpretation of the abstract graphics of the St. Petersburg artist Arseniy Blinov, whose imagery is close to the musician.
