APOCALYPTICA PLAYS METALLICA
April concerts in 2017, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the cult plate "Apocalyptica plays Metallica by Four Cellos", made a real sensation. This predetermined the future of the famous program - according to the numerous requests of the audience Finns go to a big Russian tour, which will also perform their powerful set in St. Petersburg on March 27.
Apocalyptica's debut studio cover album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos", released in 1996, literally became a fateful music for the musicians. In 2016, the Finns released a remastered version of the disk specifically for the 20th anniversary. In the jubilee edition were added their versions of "Battery", "Nothing Else Matters" and "Seek & Destroy".
By the way, one of the most significant moments for Apocalyptica is a performance with Metallica on their 30th birthday in San Francisco in December 2011. With the Americans, they are in touch for a long time - the first opening speech with Metallica took place just in 1996, and Lars Ulrich on occasion visits the show of the Finns, with whom he had spoken more than once.
Titans of Finnish metal, virtuoso combining symphonic instruments and heavy music, are the only artists of their kind on the world rock scene and some of the most famous Finnish rock musicians.
"Apocalyptica is such a rough beauty," says one of the band members Eikka Toppinen in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. - Our style has long been formed, we do not need to start up any atonal experiments. I like to combine different elements, but they are all in sight - it's rock, metal and beautiful atmospheric inserts. I think we are doing very well here. "
And indeed, both the classics and the new compositions of the band the world rock community perceives with due enthusiasm. Apocalyptica is a frequent guest of the European Open Air festivals, and in Russia the band is always waiting with a special thrill, which is mutual:
"Every time we come to Russia, it's something special. Russian fans are very devoted to us, and we, in turn, are devoted to them, "the musicians admit. Yes, with unspeakable devotion, we are waiting for the most brutal cellists to come back to us, on March 27 in St. Petersburg with the program "Apocalyptica plays Metallica"!
