Jazz Of The World Cinema

"The Big Jazz Orchestra of Peter Vostokov" will perform for the first time in St. Petersburg and will present the program "Jazz World Cinema". This evening, jazz versions and interpretations of well-known and beloved melodies from Bondiana's classic films, "The Sun Valley Serenades", "Mission Impossible", the first sound full-length film "The Jazz Singer" will perform on stage.

The traditions of jazz music are inseparable from the dance culture, because what is fashionable to listen to is fashionable and danceable. This evening in the recreation center "Lensoveta" the best pairs of St. Petersburg clubs dance in the style of LindyHop, Authentic Jazz, Sals. The concert of the Big Jazz Orchestra will combine music and dance in a retrospective of the favorite melodies of the world cinema. Dance master classes for all comers before the concert and during the interval will be given by professionals, participants of the St. Petersburg Swingfesta.

Eighteen musicians: saxophones, trumpets, trombones, guitar, pianos, percussion instruments, double bass and soloist - the BDO includes young talented like-minded people, soloists of leading jazz big bands in Moscow, laureates of numerous jazz contests and festivals. Gold jazz fever, swing time and kilometer queues in the dance halls - this atmosphere revives at its concerts the Big Jazz Orchestra. Recreating the authentic sound of the music of that time, using original scores and old instruments, the orchestra presents its listeners with unique programs dedicated to the "outstanding giants" of orchestral jazz from completely different eras and directions: from the jazz of the 1920s Paul Whiteman to the late 60s rock Years of Buddy Rich, from entertaining dance swing to serious works of large form - the suite of Duke Ellington, from the classical mambo Tito Puente and Perez Prado to the jazz interpretations of the Beatles music.

"Under the guidance of the outstanding Russian jazz trumpeter Peter Vostokov ... the orchestra presents music from the great legacy of the golden age of jazz not as museum exhibits, but as a living, exciting sound fabric that is still relevant today," writes Kirill Moshkov, editor-in-chief of the magazine and the Internet portal "Jazz .RU".

Musicians collaborate with museums and publishers, search for original scores, decipher grammars to recreate the authenticity of jazz music of the 20-40s and reproduce it in the version in which it was conceived. With the same strokes, vibrations and balance of sound, which can only be done on original old instruments.

The orchestra was created by trumpeter Peter East and soloist - Daria Antonova, debuted in 2010 on the stage of the Central House of Journalists in Moscow. And already in April 2011 he received the Grand Prix at the international competition of young performers "Usadba-Jazz".
