The music of Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeev) oratorio for soloists, chorus and orchestra
The basis for musical compositions by Metropolitan Hilarion put the narrative in the gospel of Matthew dedicated to the suffering and death of Christ. This narrative is interspersed with musical numbers with recitatives, choruses and arias, the text of which is borrowed mainly from the Orthodox Liturgy of Holy Week.
Premiere of the oratorio "St. Matthew Passion" was held on 27 March 2007 in the Great hall of Moscow Conservatory performed by the Moscow Synodal choir and Big Symphony orchestra named after Tchaikovsky under the baton of Vladimir Fedoseyev; the text he read Metropolitan Hilarion. Oratorio is also performed in Rome, Melbourne, Toronto.
